Shakespeare in High Park – All’s Well That Ends Well

Shakespeare in High Park - JanessaMann.Com

Every summer Canadian Stage puts on a tragedy and a comedy at their amphitheater in High Park. Admission is pay-what-you-can, and you settle in to the stone and grass seats with your picnic blanket, some extra padding (your butt gets a little sore!), and lots of delicious food. We went last summer to see “A Comedy of Errors,” so I was excited to go again this year. Last night we watched “All’s Well that Ends Well,” and later on in the summer we’ll head back to watch “Hamlet.”

Always gotta have a delicious spread of bread, cheese, olives, wine, fruits and veggies.

“All’s Well That Ends Well” was a good time. There were a couple moments where the audience was definitely uncomfortable (which I’m sure they meant on purpose, to disrupt the norm), but lots of hilarious parts, too. Like the King of France had his own theme song, and drunk Bertram trying to woo Diana.

Nic and I live near the Cedarvale Ravine in Toronto, which was one of the big draws of the area. From tip to tip it’s about a half hour walk, and for most of the time you can’t tell that you are in a city. When we went for this walk yesterday morning, I told Nic that it was definitely good for my mental health.

We’ve started going on walks every day, which is definitely my favourite part of the day since we get to catch up on lots of stuff in our lives and focus only on each other. I also need doses of nature to keep myself happy living in Toronto.

This red-winged blackbird posed for me for about five minutes! I wish I had a telephoto lens so I could get even better nature photography!

I love swinging, and had a blast on this. It’s the simple things!

All the blossoms were a little tired after the 27* weather, but they’ve bounced back in my bud vases at home.

Nadege and Trinity Bellwoods

Matcha green tea and rose macarons at Nadege

My friend Alina was in town Thursday to write an exam, and our schedules happened to line up for coffee! I hadn’t seen her since the fall, so it was really great to catch up with her again, since she was such a great friend in undergrad.

We decided to go to Nadege on Queen st West, by Trinity Bellwoods park. I’d seen quite a few people on Instagram post their French macarons, and I haven’t had one in ages, so this was the perfect excuse!  My macarons (green tea matcha and rose) were delicious. Couldn’t have made it better (but I am looking forward to baking more of them with Kelsey next year!)

Summer in the Six is Coming – Sangria in the Park!

This past Sunday was beautiful in Toronto! It was upwards of 20*, so after church and a great workout at the gym, we made some sangria and headed to the park.

Nic wasn’t too happy that I bought this thermos from the grocery store last summer, but now he loves it. We can bring hot coffee on hikes, or delicious sangria to hang out.

Of course I brought my KOBO and colouring book.

Family Day Coffee Date at Box Car Social and a Walk in the Park

I love finding gems through Instagram! I found Box Car Social through someone’s Instagram post, and screenshotted it, to save it for another coffee date. For Family Day/Valentine’s Day, Nic and I decided to go there! It’s pretty close to us, just south of St. Clair on Yonge street.

I’d say that my chai latte was the best I’ve had since coming to Toronto: nice and spicy and lots of warmth. Nic also tests his coffeeshops by their cappucinos. He loved it.

We sat at the window, but there are big tables at the back, and then also more sitting upstairs, which we only noticed at the end (too bad… next time!). Box Car Social has lots of coffee and tea selections, as well as a bar, which will be cool to check out again later.

We really enjoyed our time there, and I’d definitely recommend it!

My friend LJ nominated me for a #stopdropandyoga, so I figured I’d do a dancer pose on this tree trunk. That was silly, it was pretty steep and I was terrified I’d fall over!
