I love finding gems through Instagram! I found Box Car Social through someone’s Instagram post, and screenshotted it, to save it for another coffee date. For Family Day/Valentine’s Day, Nic and I decided to go there! It’s pretty close to us, just south of St. Clair on Yonge street.

I’d say that my chai latte was the best I’ve had since coming to Toronto: nice and spicy and lots of warmth. Nic also tests his coffeeshops by their cappucinos. He loved it.

We sat at the window, but there are big tables at the back, and then also more sitting upstairs, which we only noticed at the end (too bad… next time!). Box Car Social has lots of coffee and tea selections, as well as a bar, which will be cool to check out again later.

We really enjoyed our time there, and I’d definitely recommend it!

We’re a Blundstone family.

My friend LJ nominated me for a #stopdropandyoga, so I figured I’d do a dancer pose on this tree trunk. That was silly, it was pretty steep and I was terrified I’d fall over!

I set up the camera for a Family Day picture.

Black Cat Espresso Bar – Saturday Afternoon Coffee Date

Today after my shift at the gym Nic and I took the subway and then the streetcar to Black Cat Espresso Bar. I’ve seen their name pop up several times when searching for coffeeshops in Toronto, so I decided today was the day. They’re at Dufferin and College and have quite a few tables.
Check out this BlogTO post where I discovered the coffeeshop!

I compare my coffeeshops by their chai lattes. The froth and milk in this was perfect, but I usually like my chais to be a little spicier. Nic really liked his cappuccino, and we were interested to see that it came in that glass instead of a mug! Our barista was super nice, and there’s obviously a lot of connection with regulars in the neighbourhood.

I enjoyed working on my crossword as well as reading my books. It was a beautiful afternoon!

My favourite shot Nic took of me was the cheekiest-it was actually more of a selfie for him in the mirror!

The Black Cat is adorable, and I’d love to go back at night when it becomes a bar!

DIY Frank’s Coffee Scrub!

DIY Frank's Cofee Scrub - TheCraftyMann.Blogspot.ca
Last year in preparation for my wedding I was looking for things to help treat my bacne (it sucks that working out for your wedding creates other problems!) and lighten some scarring. One of my friends suggested using Frank’s’ Coffee Scrub, but said that it was hard to ship it to Canada, and expensive. Of course, I had to find my own recipe!
Coffee scrubs help activate your cellulite, so it’ll firm up your skin (for a short time), and it also did a lot of great work with my bacne.

Ingredients:
Coffee grounds – when I remember to make this, I recycle our coffee grounds instead of composting them
Oil – Most recipes I found suggested coconut oil, but since I’m allergic, I use olive oil
Sugar – Granular sugars are great to the more scrubbing action

Mix it all together!

When using this in the shower, make sure to do it after you’ve cleaned your hair, or else you’ll get the oil from the scrub into your hair. Sometimes this is awesome for my hair, other times it looks dirtier!
At first I was worried my parents wouldn’t be happy I was rinsing so much coffee down their drains, but I found out coffee grounds help clear out drains! So not only are you getting rid of dead skin, minimizing cellulite, and smelling delicious, you’re also cleaning the drains.
That said, it was much easier cleaning up from that at my parents’ place, where I had an enclosed shower with walls. In our current bathroom, we have a claw-foot tub and curtains, so I have to be very particular about how I apply and rinse the scrub.

Exploring Toronto: St. Clair West

This Saturday Nic and I decided to go for a long walk in our neighbourhood, St. Clair West. We walk down that way frequently in the evening when we walk to Salsa lessons, but the stores are closed. We figured we’d stop in them.
St. Clair West is a really great neighbourhood, I’m happy that we live here! We’ve been having a lot of fun exploring our area.
Nic in our alley

What a cutie! Lol. I determined this would be a great spot for OOTDs. Not that I wanted one there.

Sea Witch

We really want to go to the Sea Witch for dinner sometime, we are obsessed with fish and chips.

Gypsy

One of the consignment stores along St. Clair is Gypsy, they have lots of cool clothes. They’re currently having a sale on all clothes all August~!

Then we went into Caravan, which is the sister store to Gypsy. They have beautiful china, and other wonderful things.

OOTD

What an adorable outfit, red tank from American Apparel, and high waisted shorts from Goodwill.

Krave Coffee

On our way back, we stopped at Krave Coffee, which is an adorable coffee shop, that has a beautiful design, and nice coffee. They let us taste their medium blend, and then Nic bought a bag for a good price, and we’re looking forward to going there some more!
